We awoke to a view of fresh snow on the mountains surrounding our campground. As we drove from Canmore, AB, to the Columbia Icefields, we stopped at a tollbooth for a day pass to enter the Banff & Jasper National Parks. Each day the drive becomes even more spectacular. Today was no exception!
The Canadian Rockies rose huge and partially snow-covered. There were fast-flowing streams emerging from the mountains, and lakes at the base of the mountains which they reflected. We stopped several times to take pictures of the breath-taking views. We saw brown bears at two different locations – one black and the other cinnamon colored. We stopped at Bridal Veil Falls.
Although, there were several construction sites, the roads were good. We arrived at the Columbia Icefield Visitor Center and set up for overnight dry-camping. We toured the Icefield & the Athabasca Glacier via bus and ice coach, which carried us onto the glacier itself. Awesome!
After the tour we returned to our RV’s for a Driver’s meeting over the CB radios. It was snowing during the meeting. As we are writing this blog entry, we are looking out our window at the Glacier!!
