Day 9 - Valemount, BC to Prince George, BC

Jim & Evelyn Northup                                                                                                      Rig #9

Well another great day to travel from Irvins Park and Campground to Prince George, Southpark RV Park. Today is Thursday, June 17, 2010 and as we start each day’s journey, we set our trip odometer to zero. That way, we have a point of reference for the days trek.
As the day began, I started to wonder if we were going to see any animals other than horses or cows. But that sure changed at mile 69.5. We saw a moose, a brown bear and a deer within a mile and a half of each other. Things just got better at mile 123 we got to see a mother black bear with her cubs. What a great sight. Then at mile 127 another black bear. What a great day, but it continues.

We did miss the old train station in McBride, before we knew it we were in the middle of town with no place to turn around.

The next best thing was our stop at Purden Lake Resort, café and bakery. We met up with Larry and Ada, Bill and Marilyn, Ira and Beverly, Jeff and Noreen, Ivan and Shirley. We had a wonderful lunch but the blueberry pie with the vanilla ice cream was the hit. Just as we were finishing up with lunch, Erv and Trecia came in. We all left there together and arrived at the campground about 2:30 pm.

All of us had to set up our rigs and our time was very limited to accomplish this task. We then had to meet our new adventurers, who are taking the fifty day tour of Alaska.

At 4:30 PM, was our meeting with the five new caravan couples. This was followed by a pot-luck supper that was prepared by some of the members of the tour and the staff, and was enjoyed by all. After supper, we played a little game, with of all things, toilet paper. I found this interesting as every one was given a different amount of paper. Some of us received as few as seven, and some as many as twelve. You then told everyone an unknown fact about yourself, and as you did, you tore off a sheet of paper. I guess, the way to play, is to get as few sheets as possible.
